Description

I got this wild idea of imaging a large section of Cassiopeia to pull a variety of targets into view. My Zenithstar 61 would have been an easier choice  but I decided to up the difficulty level by attempting greater resolution using my Evostar 80ED. This required an 8 panel mosaic which proved very challenging to process. I used Astro Pixel Processor to stack each panel and build the mosaic. Subsequent processing was then done in Pixinsight although certain processes like photometric color calibration would not play nice with the large file sizes. Stars were brought back into Astro Pixel Processor for color calibration and then handed back to Pixinsight. This project made me glad to have both of these applications. Final touch ups were finished off in Photoshop.

This was an interesting project but 26 nights of imaging to collect a total of 3,254 light frames tested my limited patience. I've only done 2 panel mosaics in the past so this was a great learning experience. In the future, I will probably keep my mosaics to a maximum of 4 panels and strongly consider upgrading my PC before attempting another project of this scale. My Ryzen 7's 8 cores were huffing and puffing on this one.

The 172 hours of total integration was split equally between each panel for 21.5 hours each.
